CASA is the kind of volunteer work in which the actions of a single person can truly make all the difference. CASA volunteers are empowered by the courts to help make the dream of a safe and loving family a reality for children in foster care.

They do that by meeting with the child at least once a month, talking with the other significant people in the child’s life and reporting directly to the judge about what’s in the child’s best interest. In this way, a CASA volunteer gives the child a voice in court — and in his or her own future.

Our vision is to provide a CASA volunteer for every child who needs one. However, 60% of children in the system have no access to a CASA volunteer. That’s almost 400,000 children nationwide.

How to Become a CASA Volunteer

To become a CASA volunteer, you don’t need to be a lawyer or social worker. In fact, you don’t need any special background or education. CASA is looking for qualified, compassionate men and women:

  • From all cultures, ages and professions.
  • From all ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Who care about children and have common sense.

Before becoming a CASA, you will need to:

  • Go through a background check.
  • Complete training.
  • Agree to stay with a case until it’s closed (a year and a half on average).
